Large and Important Picasso
This controversial and very important Picasso oil was painted after Franco came to power in Spain. It clearly depicts General Franco, an innocent woman in white holding a dove, and a third party holding the woman away from an arrogant and grasping Franco. How the Germans acquired the painting is unknown. It is believed to have been gifted by General Wilhelm Von Faupel to Arnold Margerie, the founder of the Venezuelan Nazi Party, in the early years of WWII complete with a German Patent of Authenticity. It remained in the possession of Margerie’s heirs until it was smuggled into Columbia and sold to help finance their departure from Venezuela.
