Major Picasso Masterpiece
This impressive and very important Picasso oil was painted in Paris after Franco came to power and was subsequently seized by the Germans when they captured Paris. It clearly depicts a two-faced General Franco, a dove-holding woman in white representing the innocent people of Spain and the world, and a third person representing Franco’s socialist opponents who is trying to hold the woman away from an innocence-feigning Franco. How and from whom the Germans acquired this important and impressive painting is unknown. It is believed to have been gifted by General Wilhelm Von Faupel to Arnold Margerie, the founder of the Venezuelan Nazi Party, in the early years of WWII complete with a German Patent of Authenticity. It remained in the possession of Margerie’s heirs until it was smuggled into Columbia and sold to help finance their departure from Venezuela.
